Alva Carrasco

A native of California, Alva Carrasco has worked in the transit industry for more than 20 years. She began her transit career in administration and progressively moved up in responsibility over the years. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Transportation Management while working full time. Currently, she is working on a second degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Ms. Carrasco has worked in administrative, supervisory, and in operational roles throughout her career. She worked for Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus for nearly 10 years in administrative, supervisory, and project management roles. She worked in transit operations for Los Angeles Metro for 7 years. Before moving to San Antonio, she worked 3 years as the Assistant Director of Transportation for Montebello Bus Lines. As Vice President of Transportation at VIA Metro, she is responsible for fixed-route and paratransit service in Bexar County, providing over 44 million trips and one million trips annually respectively.
Her hobbies include reading, traveling, yoga, hiking, practicing her golf swing, concerts, museums, and she is a foodie and wine enthusiast. 
Personal Interests
She currently serves as the Vice Chair of the COMTO San Antonio chapter, where she enjoys raising scholarship funds for students, and mentoring students and young adults to pursue a career in public transit.
