Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a
method by which you can monitor when new
publications are released, and watch for
news about the TCRP program in what is
called a news reader.
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is the
format of the RSS file. RSS is used by
numerous news organizations for listing
articles that are available on their
websites. It is also used by many
organizations to publish news and events
about their organizations. More information about RSS More information about XML
Why should I care?
News readers are a convenient way of
keeping informed about things that
happen all over the world and also in
your area. When you see an item of
interest, you just click on it and a
web browser will pop up, displaying
the details.
If you work at a computer all day, a
news reader can keep you informed
without you having to frequently
seek information with your web
browser.
If you spend almost no time at your
computer, a news reader makes it easy
to quickly brush up on what is
happening in your world without you
having to seek information with your
web browser.
What is a news reader?
A news reader is a program that collects
RSS/XML information from the web and organizes
it in a way that is most convenient for you.
You may specify which news sources that
you'd like to appear in your news reader.
There are various types of news readers. Some
simply list all of the articles in a
hierarchical tree. Others display a ticker
tape across your screen. More information about News Readers
What does it cost?
Normally, nothing. You don't pay to receive
RSS/XML files. And, you can usually find a
good quality, FREE news reader.
Sometimes, the news reader comes with your
operating system. For example, when using KDE
on Linux, the KNewsTicker program is a
scrolling ticker that is built into your
control panel.
How do I get started?
Just find and download a news reader by
using one of these sites:
