Andy Mikkelson has served as Director
of Transit Operations for Gold Coast
Transit (formerly South Coast Area
Transit) in Ventura County, California
since February, 2006.
As director of operations, Mr.
Mikkelson runs GCT’s largest
department and is responsible for all
aspects of bus operations. He serves
on the GCT’s Management Team which
works collaboratively with the general
manager to oversee agency and transit
system performance. In September of
2007 Mr. Mikkelson was one of 25 U.S.
transit professionals selected to
participate in the American Public
Transportation Association’s
Leadership Class for 2008.
Mr. Mikkelson began his transit
career in 1992, working as a driver
and relief dispatcher for ATC/Vancom
in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1996 he
spent a summer working for Princess
Cruises’ transportation department in
Juneau, Alaska. Later in 1996 he
rejoined ATC/Vancom, this time serving
in San Diego, where he was Field
Operations Supervisor for four years
and Director of Operations for five
years.
He was honored by ATC as its Corporate
Employee of the Year in 2002, in
recognition of outstanding work with
both the San Diego and Las Vegas
properties during a prolonged labor
action in Las Vegas.
He attended Point Loma Nazarene
College in San Diego, studying
Business Administration, and completed
Pepperdine University’s certificate
program in Transit and Paratransit
Management. Before beginning his
transit career, he worked in a variety
of retail management positions.
Mr. Mikkelson resides in Oxnard,
California.
