Carol Greer Smith is a transit professional with
over 14 years experience in the public
transportation field. Before entering the transit
industry, she held a career in marketing research,
working with many Fortune 100 companies and
non-profit organizations defining marketing
solutions through quantitative and qualitative
research for over a decade.
Her transportation career began at Metropolitan
Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, in 1993, where she
established expertise in marketing, transit
research, transit operations, planning and
administration, with additional experiences in Bus
Rapid Transit, community relations and quality
assurance. Ms. Smith left MARTA in 2003 and
pursued an opportunity with Fairfax County,
Virginia, Department of Transportation as the Chief
of Transportation Marketing. Her responsibilities
included oversight for marketing initiatives at the
Fairfax Connector. She also led the Transportation
Demand Management program for the county. Carol
has recently returned to MARTA as the Director of
Research and Analysis.
She has been an active member of COMTO in both the
Atlanta and Northern Virginia chapters. Ms. Smith
currently serves on the national COMTO membership
and program committees. She also enjoys working
closely with TCRP on transit research initiatives.
An alumnus of Leadership APTA, Ms. Smith has been
involved with several transit oriented initiatives.
Carol enjoys international travel, where she
visited transit systems all over the world.
